La Cusinga is named after the Fiery-billed Aracari, which can be seen in the area and it is called locally Cusinga (female) and Cusingo (male). This bird is in the toucan family. There being so many great places to visit in this beautiful country...

Why go to La Cusinga?
Ultra-tropical, virgin rainforest with monkeys and toucans, pristine coast, secluded beaches, lively reefs, among the best in Costa Rica and all close and accesible.
The rainforest-surrounded beach at La Cusinga, called "Playa de Arco" is part of Ballena (Whale) Marine National Park, created to protect its various coastal marine habitats, also endangered species like the Pacific hawksbill turtles that live and nest here, and the humpback whales that visit the park every year from both Northern and Southern hemispheres.

The electricity comes from the stream we swim in and the sun. Lots of fresh local organic food.

We are actively involved in marine and terrestrial conservation and environmental education. We encourage and support local culture and people as much as possible.

We gladly help make arrangements for exploring Caño Island, mangroves, dolphins & whale watching when possible, horseback riding, sea kayacking, deep sea fishing, scubadiving, Corcovado National Park, all closeby.

At La Cusinga Lodge we offer great accommodations, ideal for your tropical vacation, breezy comfortable cabins, all with huge ocean views, made from trees planted on the same farm 20 years ago. Local craftsmanship with wood, stone, shell, and sand is unique.
