La Selva Biological Station - Atlantic Zone -
At the confluence of two major rivers in the Caribbean
lowlands of northern Costa Rica, La Selva comprises 1,600 hectares (3,900 acres)
of tropical wet forests and disturbed lands. It averages
4 m (over 13 feet!) of rainfall that is spread rather evenly throughout the year......
Speciesī diversity is spectacular, including more than 1,900 species of
plants, 330 species of trees, 436 species of birds, and 450 species of ants.
Poas Volcano Lodge - Central Valley / Cordillera
- The lodge is nestled into the rolling pastures,
at the foothills of the Poas Volcano, one of the worlds largest
active craters. The impressive views from the house include not only
the volcano, but also the western area of the spectacular Braulio
Carillo National Park as well as the Caribbean plains. Poas Volcano
Lodge is just a few meters from the nearest protected subtropical
rain forest area, through which a network of trails have been designed for visitors to explore.
This location is defenitely great for birders and its location provides an amazing bird diversity
including species of the Central Valley Highlands and also a well marked Caribbean influence.
Over 380 species have been recorded in the area.

Our 125-acre ranch lies in pre-mountain rain forest in the Caribbean
zone at 3000 feet. Over 400 species of birds have been recorded by guests

La Merced National Wildlife Refuge - La Merced CBC Site - Southern Pacific Zone
- La Merced National Wildlife Refuge is home of a great variety of birds.
310 species of birds have been spotted in the refuge and sorrounding habitats.
Since 1971 the conservation of diverse natural habitats found in the Refuge,
has attracted many birds, mammals, insects and reptiles, who have found in
the refuge a sanctuary for feeding and reproduction in the rainforest,
wetlands and mangroves. The trails crossing different habitats, give
you the oportunity to observe a great number of species of birds maximizing
your birding experience in Costa Rica.
Savegre Mountain Hotel - Highlands of Talamanca - Pacific Slope
- In the midst of exuberant tropical cloud forest and bounded
by beautiful gardens with colorful flowers sorrounded by hummingbirds you find Savegre Mountain Hotel.
Over 170 bird species have been observed in the area and its multiple hiking trails
in the Cloud Forest. This is known as the best place in the country to observe Resplendent Quetzals, who live here year around.
