Great Potoo

The Great Potoo (Nyctibius grandis) is a large, pale night bird of forest canopy. Wings and tail much longer than any owl. Lives from Guatemala to E Peru, C Bolivia and SE Brazil.

51cm (20”), 600g. Overall pale buff, shading to white on belly; above and below lightly and irregularly barred and vermiculated with black and buffy-brown. Scapulars spotted with black; irregular band of black spots across breast. Wings and tail barred with black and buff; mottled with cinnamon and grayish. Iris dark brown to chestnut; bill blackish; feet pale-greenish. Young: Overall whiter; dark markings reduced.
