Green Hermit

The Green Hermit (Phaethornis guy) is found from Costa Rica to wets Colombia and southeast Peru. Lives in understory and edges of forest or adjacent tall second growth. Matures are 15 cm (6 inches) in height and 6 g in weight.

Above and below is mostly dark iridescent green, becoming deep blue on buff-edged tail-coverts. Lateral retrices mostly black, edged with whitish at tip. Lower belly dark gray, and feet dusky-flesh. Visits flowers including Heliconia, Costus, and Razisea.

Green-fronted Lancebill

The Green-fronted Lancebill (Doryfera ludovicae) inhabits from Costa Rica to west Venezuela, Peru, and Bolivia. It lives in canopy, at edges, and along streams and mountains. Its size is of 11.5 cm (4 inches) in height and 5.7 g in weight.

Adults are mostly iridescent dusky-green, with forehead glittering blue-green. Crown and nape dark bronzy. Upper tail-coverts deep blue. Tail black and tipped with gray. Bill and feet black. Its flowers are of epiphytic Ericaceae and mistlotoes.

Brown Violetear

The Brown Violetear (Colibri delphinae) ranges from Guatemala to Bolivia, east Brazil, and Trinidad. Its natural habits are in canopy of forest, tall second growth and semi-open, descends to shrub level at edges and clearings. Adults are 11.5 cm (4 inches) in height and 6.5 g in weight.

Mostly dull grayish-brown. Back glossed with green, and tail-coverts dusky broadly edge with cinnamon. Tail bronze-green, and violet patch from below eye to auriculars. Bill black and feet dusky. Visits flowers of trees, and epiphytes.

Purple-crown Fairy

The Purple-crowned Fairy (Heliotryx barroti) resides from southeast Mexico to West Panama. It frequents canopy and edges of forest descending to lower levels in semi-open, tall second growth, and shaded gardens. Its size is of 11.5 cm (4 inches) in height and 5.6 g in weight.

Males have a forehead and a crown flashing violet. Black mask with a metallic violet spot and bordered below by glittering green. Upperparts bright metallic green. Feet dusky and bill black. Females lacks of violet and glittering green on head. This bird extracts nectar from flowers by piercing their bases.
