Rufous Motmot
The Rufous Motmot (Baryphthengus martii) resides from northeast Honduras to west Ecuador, northeast Argentina, and south Brazil. It prefers tall humid forest, shady older second growth, and semi-open. Adults are 46 cm (18 inches) in length and 195 g in weight.
Its broad mask is black, and they have a small black spot on chest. Rest of head, neck, and breast cinnamon-rufous. Back, wing-coverts, and sides deep green. Belly and crissum are belly greenish-blue. Bill black, and feet blackish. This animal eats fruits, insects and spiders, small frogs and lizards, or fishes and crabs.
Keel-billed Motmot
The Keel-billed Motmot (Electron carinatum) inhabits from southeast Mexico to Costa Rica. It lives in tall humid forest, near gullies and streams, in hilly country. Matures are 32 cm (12 inches) in height and 65g in weight.
Its forehead is deep rofous, and abruptly separated from dark green of crown. Chin blue-green, with a large breast-spot back, and narrow black. Rest of head and body green, above darker and more olive. Lower breast and belly tinged with cinnamon. Bill black and feet dusky. It feeds on insects and fruits.
Broad-billed Motmot
The Broad-billed Motmot (Electron platyrhynchum) lives from north Honduras to west Ecuador, central Bolivia, and central Brazil. This bird inhabits in humid forest and older second growth, and shady open. Its size is of 30 cm (12 inches) in height and 60 g in weight.
Its chin is blue-green, narrow black mask, and black spot on chest. Rest of head, neck and breast cinnamon-rufous. Belly bluish-green, bill black, and feet dusky. Its diet is based on fruits, centipedes, spiders, insects, butterflies, dragonflies, small frogs and lizards.
Ringed Kingfisher
The Ringed Kingfisher (Megaceryle torquata) ranges from south Texas to Tierra del Fuego in South America. It frequents lowlands of both slopes. Its measures are 41 cm (16 inches) in height and 290 g in weight.
Above is blue-gray, with the crown and crest finely streaked with black. Wing and tail feathers black, spotted and barred with white, and broadly edged with blue-gray. Throat and crissum white. Rest of underparts deep rufous. Feet blackish and bill brownish. This bird eats insects and fishes.
Belted Kingfisher
The Belted Kingfisher (Ceryle alcyon) breeds in North America and in winters inhabits from central USA to South America. Its place is in coastlines, shores of rivers, lakes, and estuaries. Adults are 20.5 cm (12 inches) in height and 150 g in weight.
Its upperparts and its broad breast-brand, are blue-gray. Remiges and retrices are black, edged with blue-gray. Its underparts and a collar in neck are white. Flanks blue-gray, feet blackish, and bill black, except base of mandible gray. This bird eats fishes.
Amazon Kingfisher
The Amazon Kingfisher (Chloroceryle amazona) is found from tropical Mexico to north Argentina. It lives in rivers, channels in mangroves, estuaries, and lake shores. Adults are 29 cm (11 inches) in length and 110 g in weight.
This is the largest green-backed kingfisher. Males are above dark metallic green, with breast deep rufous. Rest of underparts and narrow nuchal collar white. Bill and feet are black. Females are similar, but lacks rufous, and with sides of breast spotted with green. They feed on fishes.
