Green Kingfisher

The Green Kingfisher (Chloroceryle americana) lives from central Texas to north Chile and central Argentina. It prefers small woodland streams, marshes, and rain pools. Adults are 18 cm (7 inches) in height and 37 g in weight.

Matures are above dark metallic green, with deep rufous breast, and underparts and narrow nuchal collar are white. Its lower breast is spotted with green. Feet dark gray and bill black. Its diet is based on fishes and small aquatic insects.

Green-and-rufous Kingfisher

The Green-and-rufous Kingfisher (Chloroceryle inda) is found from southeast Nicaragua to west Ecuador, central Bolivia, and central Brazil. It resides in forest swamps, or small forests streams. Its size is of 21 cm (8 inches) in height and 60 g in weight.

Adults are above dark metallic green, with whitish to rufous spots on wings and tail. Throat rich buff, bill back, and feet grayish. Juveniles have a green breast-band spotted with rufous. This animal lives alone, and eats small fishes and aquatic insects.

Pied Puffbird

The Pied Puffbird (Notharchus tectus) resides from Costa Rica to East Peru, and Amazonian Brazil. Its places are canopy and edge of humid forest, and second growth with scattered tall trees. Adults are 15 cm (6 inches) in height and 27 g in weight.

Matures are above mostly black, with white forehead. Below is mostly white with a black breast-brand. Bill and feet black. Inmatures are above brownish-black and its forehead is spotted with buff. Its diet is of insects like dragonflies, bees, wasps, and beetles.

The White-Whiskered Puffbird (Malacoptila panamensis) inhabits from southeast Mexico to west Ecuador. Its natural habits are understory to middle levels of forest, shady semi-open, in cacao plantations, or old second growth. Adults are 18 cm (7 inches) in height and 42 g in weight.

Its upperparts are bright olive-brown. Its crown, mantle, and wing-coverts are spotted with cinnamon-brown to cinnamon- buff. Throat buffy-white, and chest tawny brown to cinnamon. Upper mandible blackish, and lower yellowish. Feet are yellowish-brown. They feed on insects like ants, small frogs and lizards, and spiders.

The Lanceolated Monklet (Micromonacha lanceolata) ranges from Costa Rica to East Peru and West Brazil. It prefers wet forests of lower middle elevations, usually in the Caribbean Slope. Its measures are 13 cm (5 inches) in height and 18 g in weight.

Its crown and upperparts are brown, with white forehead. Its tail is dull brown with a pale brown tip. Below is white, and boldly streaked with black. Bill black, and legs, and feet olive-gray. It feeds on insects and berries.

The White-Fronted Nunbird (Monasa morphoeus) ranges from east Honduras to north Bolivia and Southeast Brazil. It is found in canopy of tall rain forest, and in semi-open and clearings with scattered trees. Its size is of 29 cm (11 cm) in height and 105 g in weight.

Its forehead, lores, and chin have short white feathers. Rest of the head is dull black, shading to dark slate-gray over rest of the body, and palest on belly. Wings and tails are more blackish. Bill paler orange and feet dark gray. It eats insects, spiders, small frogs and lizards.
