Gray-Headed Dove

The Gray-Headed Dove (Leptotila plumbeiceps) is a resident breeder from eastern Mexico to western Panama. It is most frequently found on the ground, although it is equally arboreal, and occurs in a variety of forest types. The grey-headed dove is 24 cm (9.8 in) long and weighs 150 g.

The adult has a grey crown and neck. The upperparts and wings are olive-brown, and the underparts are pinkish shading to white on the belly. The tail is broadly tipped with white. The bill is black and the legs red. Young birds lack the grey on the head.

Buff-fronted Quail-Dove

The Buff-fronted Quail-Dove (Geotrygon costarricensis) is a Costa Rica’s endemic bird. It lives in Costa Rica and Panama. It is a resident of the Cordillera of Guanacaste, Pacific slope and Caribbean slope. This bird measures 28 cm (11 inches) in height and 250 g in weight.

The nape and upper back have a green tinge while the belly grades to brownish. The back, wings and tail are maroon. The legs are bright coral-red, and the bill is dull brown. It eats fruits, seeds, and insects.

Purplish-backed Quail-Dove

The Purplish-Backed Quail-Dove (Geotrygon lawrencii) lives from the southeast part of Mexico to the Costa Rica and the East part of Panama. This dove prefers dense wet forest in mountainous terrain. Adults are 25 cm (10 inches) in size and 220 g in mass.

Some physical features are its dark-backed, its gray- breasted and its face whitish whit bold black eye. Also, the black bill, cere dusky and its orbital skin and legs magenta. This vertebrate forages in ground and feeds on seeds, worms, fruits and insects.

Chiriqui Quail-Dove

The Chiriqui Quail-Dove (Geotrygon chiriquensis) is other endemic species of Costa Rica. It is found in mid-elevation forests Costa Rica and Panama. Its natural habitat are subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. Its stature is 30 cm (12 inches) and its weight 295 g.

Like most quail-doves, it is shy bird and is more often heard than seen. Some features are its grey crown and nape, rufous breast, and black moustachial stripe. The upperparts are maroon to rufous. The eye is red. Legs and feet are reddish. It feeds on seeds.

White-winged Dove

The White-winged Dove (Zenaida asiatica) resides from the Southwest side of USA to Panama and in some parts of South America. Its natural place is on cacti, thorny scrub, and scattered trees, in savannas or open woodlands. Adults are 30 cm (12 inches) in height and 100g in weight.

They are brownish, with underparts and wing-linings gray, primaries dusky, bill black and legs carmine. Youngers are paler and grayer than matures. Its nest is near mangroves. It feeds on seeds.

Eared Dove

The Eared Dove (Zenaida auriculata) lives in Central and South America from Colombia to southern Argentina and Chile. This bird is common to abundant in savannahs and other open areas, including cultivation and it readily adapts to human habitation. It is 24 cm (9.4 inches) and weighs normally about 112 g.

Adult males have olive-brown upperparts plumage, with black spots on the wings. The underparts are vinous, and the long rounded tail is tipped with cinnamon. The bill is black and the legs are dark red.
