Northern Pintail
The Northern Pintail (Anas acuta) breeds from Alaska and north Canada to south USA, and in winters to north South America. Its natural habits are shallow, open freshwater lagoons, marshes, and sloughs. Its size is of 64 cm (25 inches) in height and 900 g in weight.
Its head and most of neck are brown, with a white stripe down side of neck. Foreneck, breast, and belly are white. Mantle and sides vermiculated with white and black. This bird eats seeds and aquatic animals.
Green-winged Teal
The Green-winged Teal (Anas crecca) breeds from Alaska and north Canada to north USA, and in winters resides regularly to Mexico and rarely to Costa Rica. This small bird prefers freshwater marshes. Its measures are 35 cm (14 cm) in height and 325 g in weight.
Its head and neck are chestnut, except glossy green side of head. Most of upperparts and sides finely vermiculated with black and white. Breast buffy spotted with black, belly white, and sides of rump buffy. It eats invertebrates.
